Property Description
You know this house. A design like no other. Hand cut stone arches, turrets, shingle style gables, a porte cochere, and fanciful windows. A stately carriage house with details to match the house.Thomas Friant had this house built in 1892. He was a determined romantic when he chose the kind of house that would express him. A one of a kind house. Using multiple architectural styles, Mr. Friant was a lumberman so he used multiple types of wood throughout. Rumor has it he blew up part of a bridge on the Grand River to break up a log jam. It is a colorful story. In 1968 the current owners moved to Grand Rapids, and became intrigued with this now empty and neglected house. They made inquiries, it was not for sale, it was to be demolished to make way for a medical building.
